What Is Skin Cancer Screening & Localized Treatment?
Skin cancer screening involves a careful visual (and where needed, dermatoscopic) examination of the skin to check for lesions, moles, or marks that show signs of concern. Where a suspicious lesion is found, our team will discuss appropriate next steps with you β which may include referral for biopsy or diagnosis by a specialist, and, for confirmed localized (non-advanced) skin lesions, treatment options such as surgical excision, depending on what a qualified specialist recommends.
Important: Glam Aesthetics does not diagnose skin cancer. Any lesion of concern is referred for proper diagnostic testing (such as a biopsy) with a qualified dermatologist, oncologist, or pathology service before any treatment is planned. This page describes our role in screening awareness and, where appropriate, supporting treatment of confirmed localized lesions under proper medical guidance β not a substitute for a medical diagnosis.
What We Look For
- Moles or spots that have changed in size, shape, or color
- New growths or lesions that appear irregular
- Sores that don’t heal within a normal timeframe
- Lesions that itch, bleed, or become tender without clear cause
- Asymmetrical or irregularly bordered marks on the skin
- Any area of the skin you’re personally concerned about
If you’ve noticed any of the above, please don’t wait β book a screening appointment as soon as possible.
How It Works
- Consultation & Visual Assessment β Your skin is carefully examined, with particular attention to any areas of concern you raise or that our team identifies.
- Referral for Diagnosis (if needed) β If a lesion appears suspicious, we refer you to a qualified specialist for proper diagnostic testing, such as a biopsy, before any decisions are made.
- Treatment Planning (for confirmed localized lesions) β If a lesion is diagnosed as a localized skin cancer suitable for surgical removal, a treatment plan is developed in coordination with the diagnosing specialist.
- Follow-Up Care β Ongoing monitoring and follow-up are recommended, both for healing after treatment and for continued skin health surveillance.
Why Early Attention Matters
Catching a suspicious lesion early gives you and your medical team the most options and generally the best outcomes. A screening appointment is a simple, non-invasive first step β if something needs closer attention, we’ll help guide you toward the right specialist quickly rather than leaving you to figure out where to go next.
What to Expect
A screening visit itself involves no downtime β it’s a visual examination, sometimes supported by a handheld dermatoscope. If a biopsy or further diagnostic testing is recommended, this will be arranged with an appropriate specialist, who can advise you on what to expect from that specific procedure. If localized surgical treatment is later planned for a confirmed lesion, your surgeon will walk you through the specific procedure, recovery, and aftercare involved.
FAQs
Can you tell me if a mole is cancerous during my visit? No β a visual screening can identify lesions that look concerning and warrant further testing, but a definitive diagnosis requires a biopsy and pathology review by a qualified specialist. We will help arrange this referral promptly if needed.
How often should I get a skin cancer screening? This depends on your individual risk factors, such as skin type, sun exposure history, and family history. Our team can advise on a suitable screening frequency during your visit.
What happens if a lesion is found to be cancerous? Your care will be coordinated with the diagnosing specialist to determine the appropriate treatment path, which may include surgical removal of localized lesions or referral for more advanced treatment depending on the diagnosis.
Should I come in if I’m not sure whether something is worth checking? Yes β if you have any doubt or concern about a spot on your skin, it’s always worth having it checked rather than waiting.
